I recently enrolled in a pet behaviour class.

Because my foster fur baby has a nasty habit of pulling me down the street.

During the training, I've discovered several interesting ideas.

And I've heard that everything they tell you about training dogs can work on people too.

Even your husband & kids!

Here are my Top 3 takeaways:

TIP 1: Shaping

First, you break the task down into smaller parts.

Think of shaping as step-by-step, gradual learning.

Then you reward or praise small changes in behaviour that are leading in the right direction.

TIP 2: Give A Reward or 'Treat'

There are two ways you can use rewards:

1. Give a treat for desired behaviours
2. Withhold the treat for undesired behaviours

Make sure you understand the behaviour you want to reinforce.

Then time the treat so that they associate good behaviour with the reward.

This is super important - always withhold the treat for bad behaviour.

Once the new behaviour is learnt, then you can fade out the reward over time.

Tip 3: Build a Strong Relationship

Now listen up - here is the big secret:

Build a strong relationship of trust.

If you do this then they'll be more likely to listen to you.

That's because they'll be more relaxed, calm & open to your suggestions.

Remember that using punishment or threats will result in less trust.

So always remain cool, calm & collected for the best results.
